Meta announced today, May 10, the arrival of a feature allowing its users to highlight their NFT : Digital Collectibles. First available on Instagram, its release is scheduled for later on Facebook.
And the NFT were…
In a video, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, proclaimed the arrival of non-fungible tokens via a new feature, Digital Collectibles. This will allow creators and collectors to share their NFT on their Instagram account, through posts, stories or messages. This is not a surprise since the idea was in the cards since January and had been confirmed in March.

NFTs on Instagram ????
This week we’re beginning to test digital collectibles with a handful of US creators and collectors who will be able to share NFTs on Instagram. There will be no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on IG.
For now, only a few users selected by Meta, the parent company, have access to this new feature. ” One of the reasons we’re starting small is that we want to make sure that we can learn from the community. We want to make sure we know how to embrace these principles of distributed trust and distributed power, despite the fact that we are, yes, a centralized platform “, explains Adam Mosseri.
At the launch of Digital Collectibles, only NFT collections supported by the Ethereum and Polygon blockchains will be accepted. Those on Flow and Solana will follow. As for compatible wallets, the feature will accept Rainbow, MetaMask and Trust Wallet, as well as Coinbase, Dapper and Phantom in the near future.
Preparing the Metaverse
Meta has understood that its social networks must adopt Web3 technologies if it wants to democratize its approach to metavers. Mark Zuckerberg, its founder, revealed that similar features will soon be implemented on Facebook and possibly on future applications of the group.
” By building support for NFTs, we aim to improve accessibility, reduce barriers to entry into this universe, and help make the NFT space more open to all communities “, states the press release. To do this, Meta is working on a project to use non-fungible tokens with augmented reality devices. These will be usable in Instagram stories through Spark AR, the in-house augmented reality software platform.
For all that, Instagram is not the first to introduce this technology on its social network. Since January, Twitter has been giving users of its freemium service the opportunity to Twitter Blue to use one of their NFT as a profile picture.
